The Suitcase

A writing competition for students

One day, Scarlett was walking home from school when she turned round a corner and she could see a little light ahead. She walked closer and saw a suitcase. Inside the suitcase was a whole lot of money and there was also a torch. Scarlett was very confused. She didn't know what to do so she phoned her friend Emily.

"Hello, is that Emily?"

"Yes it is, what's wrong?"

"Good, whereabouts are you right now? You see, I'm walking home at the moment. When I went round the corner, well there's basically a suitcase with lots of money in it and also a torch for some reason. I'm guessing it's just to catch people's attention, but I'm scared to go any closer than I am right now because it's really obvious and I'm surprised no one has noticed yet. Unless they have..."

"Erm, ok right. Stay there, I'm going to come and see. I'll be about 10 minutes, ok?"

Ten minutes later Emily arrived. They moved closer until they heard a little moving around in the bins behind. They stood still as if they had been frozen.

"Hello, me and my friend James - James come out!" a boy called.

"As I was saying, me and my friend James have been doing a little public test to see if people would take money that they have found or not."

"Andddd..." Scarlett and Emily said.

"Well, you guys are the only people who haven't taken the money, so we would like to reward you."

"Us?" the girls asked.

"Yes you! We are going to give you £1000 for being such great people!" "Really!!!" they asked.

"Yes, here you go."

They handed over the money and walked off.

"Wow, I guess we are great people!" Scarlett said and they headed back home.
