The Suitcase

A writing competition for students

Today is the day me and my suitcase go on an adventure. My name is Sapphire and I have just turned sixteen. I live in a care home, but not for much longer.

As I have just turned sixteen, I'm packing to leave the care home and go and live in my own flat, which is paid for by the council. I'm extremely excited to move out of this noisy, full of drama young people's home. I'm excited to leave for two reasons: the first is I can do what I want when I want and the most important reason is I get to use my brand new suitcase which has sapphires all over it.

I'm very artistic so I will probably doodle on it and make it look amazing.

According to Gus, I have precisely four hours thirty two minutes and fifty three seconds...fifty two...fifty one to pack up all my things and go and explore the world.

Now it's time to go and say goodbye to all my friends excluding Elektra. I start walking down the stairs and see everybody waiting including Elektra. I suddenly burst out crying because I realise I'm going to miss everybody so much. My suitcase is right next to me. At least I thought it was.

Carmen realises before I do and Liam volunteers to go and get it from upstairs but then I say I am absolutely positive I brought it down with me.

We all think there is a mystery ready to be solved by Gus. Everybody suddenly starts rushing around looking for my suitcase. Twenty minutes later it turns up exactly where I was standing.

I open it, just to check whether all my belongings are there. They're not!

Everybody gasps.
