The Suitcase

A writing competition for students

I bite my lip and sigh. New house, new school, new friends, and new surroundings. I have never moved house before but I don't like the sound of it. The house is quite big with a swimming pool, next to the sea.

Ever since mum and dad won the lottery, they have been desperate to move to a different house. Now we live in a mansion. I grab my bags and take a step in. As an only child I get a wide range of bedrooms to choose from. I investigate the house. It is really vintage inside; must have been built hundreds of years ago. I walk into a room.

As soon as I walk in the room I feel some kind of presence, like a strong wind going down my spine. I hold my breath and walk in the room. I feel something walk past me. The door slams shut! I drop my bags and grab the door handle. The door won't move. I tug even harder, it won't move, then suddenly it flies open. CRASH!! The door splits into two. I run out of the room and run outside where my mum and dad are. I tell them what has happened but my dad wants us to carry on like usual.

That evening I go to my room after dinner and lie down on my bed. Something in the corner of the room catches my eye. I walk very slowly and then notice it is a suitcase. It isn't my suitcase, it isn't any of my family's suitcases either. It is red velvet, as soft as cotton wool. It has dust covered on it and it's quite small. I kneel down. Everything is silent.

Suddenly the lid opens. There's a gun...
